The people of Makkah gave him a special name: Al-Amin, which means The Trustworthy One. Everyone trusted him with their money, their secrets, and their problems. He was the person people came to when they needed help.

Here Is the Night That Changed Everything Forever

When Muhammad ﷺ was forty years old, he liked to go alone to a cave called Hira, on a mountain near Makkah. He would sit quietly and think about Allah.

One night, something extraordinary happened. The Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) came to him. Jibreel said one word: “Read.” Muhammad ﷺ was frightened. He said: “I cannot read.”

Jibreel held him close and said again: “Read in the name of your Lord who created.” These were the very first words of the Quran. (Al-‘Alaq 96:1)

Then Came the Moment His Wife Showed Him What True Support Looks Like

Muhammad ﷺ ran home, shaking. He said to his wife, Khadijah: “Cover me, cover me!” She wrapped him in a blanket and held him until he felt calm.

Khadijah was the first person to believe in him. She said: “Allah will never let you down. You are kind to your family. You help the poor. You are always honest.”

Her words gave him strength. She was the first Muslim.

And Now the Story Moves to the Message Muhammad ﷺ Was Sent To Share

Allah told Muhammad ﷺ to share the message with everyone: “There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His messenger.”

He began to tell the people of Makkah. Some listened and believed. They became the first Muslims, people like Abu Bakr, Ali, and Khadijah.

But many people in Makkah were angry. They did not want to give up their old ways. They tried to stop him.

Here Is How the Prophet Faced Hardship with Patience and Kindness

The people who rejected him made his life very difficult. They mocked him. They hurt him and the Muslims around him.

But Muhammad ﷺ never gave up. He never stopped being kind. Even when people threw things at him, he prayed for them instead of being angry.

One of the most famous stories is of a woman who threw rubbish on him every day. One day she was sick and didn’t throw anything. Muhammad ﷺ went to check on her, and she was so moved by his kindness that she became a Muslim. (From Seerah narrations)

Then the Night Arrived That Took the Prophet ﷺ Beyond the Stars

One night, Allah gave the Prophet ﷺ an extraordinary gift. He traveled in one night from Makkah to Jerusalem, then up through the seven heavens. This is called Al-Isra wal Mi’raj.

In the heavens, he met the other prophets, Ibrahim, Musa, Isa (peace be upon them all). He came all the way before Allah and received the gift of the five daily prayers for all Muslims. (Al-Isra 17:1)

And Then the Prophet ﷺ and the Muslims Made the Journey to a New Home

The Muslims faced so much difficulty in Makkah that Allah permitted to leave. This journey to the city of Madinah is called the Hijrah.

In Madinah, the Muslims were welcomed with open arms. The Prophet ﷺ built a masjid, the very first mosque, and the Muslim community grew strong and peaceful.

Here Is How the Story Ends with a Return Full of Forgiveness

Years later, the Prophet ﷺ returned to Makkah, this time with a large Muslim army. The city was his. He could have punished everyone who had hurt him and the Muslims.

Instead, he stood before the people and said: “Go, you are all free.” He forgave them all. The city of Makkah opened its heart to Islam that day.

This was the character of Muhammad ﷺ: mercy, patience, and forgiveness always.

And in the Final Year, the Prophet ﷺ Said Goodbye to the People He Loved

In his last year, the Prophet ﷺ gave a great speech to hundreds of thousands of Muslims. He reminded them to be kind to one another, to protect the rights of everyone, and to hold fast to the Quran and his Sunnah.

He passed away in the year 632 CE, in Madinah. He was 63 years old. The whole Muslim world grieved.

But his message, the Quran and his example, lives with every Muslim to this day.
