Here Is How It All Began, Before Adam Was Even Created

Long, long ago, before people, before the Earth, Allah created beautiful beings of light. They were called angels, and they always obeyed Allah.

Allah also created another kind of being, made of smokeless fire. They were called the jinn. Most jinn chose to do good. But one jinn was very, very proud of himself. His name was Iblis.

Then Came the Moment Allah Made Something Completely New

One day, Allah decided to create something no one had ever seen before. He made the first human being, Prophet Adam (peace be upon him), out of clay from the earth.

Adam was different from anything created before. Allah breathed His own spirit into Adam. Adam could think, speak, and learn. He was an amazing creation.

Allah taught Adam the names of all things, something even the angels did not know. (Al-Baqarah 2:31)

Now Comes the Part That Changed Everything Forever

Allah called all the angels together. He gave them one command: “Bow down to Adam.”

Every single angel bowed immediately, without question. They trusted Allah completely. But Iblis refused.

He stood up straight, full of pride, and said: “I am better than him. You made him from clay. You made me from fire. I will not bow.”

This was the biggest mistake anyone had ever made. Iblis did not just disobey, he thought he knew better than Allah. That is called arrogance. (Al-A’raf 7:12)

And Then Allah Spoke to Iblis and Asked Him Why

Allah said to Iblis: “What stopped you from bowing when I commanded you?”

Iblis did not feel sorry. He did not ask for forgiveness. Instead, he said: “I am better than Adam. You made him from clay and me from fire.”

Because of his pride and his refusal, Allah removed Iblis from His mercy forever. Iblis was now called Shaytan, the outcast, the rejected one. (Al-A’raf 7:13)

But Shaytan Made a Promise, and This Is the Part We Must Remember

Shaytan was angry. He asked Allah for time. to live until the Day of Judgement. Allah gave him this time.

Then Shaytan made a dark promise. He said: “I will sit on Your straight path and I will try to lead the children of Adam astray. I will come at them from the front, from behind, from the left, and from the right.” (Al-A’raf 7:16–17)

He wanted to prove that humans were not worth anything. that they would disobey Allah, just like he did.

Here Is the Good News That Every Child Needs to Hear

Allah said to Shaytan: “You will have no power over My true servants.” (Al-Hijr 15:42)

Shaytan can whisper. He can suggest. He can try to trick people. But he cannot force anyone to do anything. Every time a person chooses to listen to Allah instead of to Shaytan, Shaytan loses.

This is why Muslims say “A’udhu billahi min ash-Shaytan ir-rajeem”  “I seek refuge in Allah from the rejected Shaytan.” Those words are a shield. (Al-Nahl 16:98)

“And when We said to the angels, ‘Prostrate before Adam,’ they prostrated, except for Iblis. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers.” (Al-Baqarah 2:34)

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ ثُمَّ صَوَّرْنَـٰكُمْ ثُمَّ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ ٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِءَادَمَ 

“And We have certainly created you, [O Mankind], and given you [human] form. Then We said to the angels, ‘Prostrate to Adam.’“ (Al-A’raf 7:11–18 )
